December 2016 - Newsletter

We rely on people to share widely as possible by Email, Facebook & Twitter - so please share

Hi All,

It's been a few months since we had a newsletter.

A lot has been happening for us both personally and professionally.  The exciting part is, it has helped to forge in both Ron and myself, a sense of purpose of making sure that the next generation of workers, family members and people living with mental distress are able to see the experience as a chance to grow, develop and heal.

For the last few months Ron has had a period of heart problems which has needed hospital admissions and clinical interventions.  At Ron's last appointment, his consultant told him "it's time to start living again" - this is exactly what Ron proposes to do.

Working to Recovery Australasia
Even with Ron's health difficulties we now have a thriving new organisation called Working to Recovery Australasia.

Within this organisation we will be providing recovery houses and the first house is up and running.  It's full and we are now looking to expand.  We have also developed PeerCARES Teams (Coach and Recovery Education Specialists).  The first one is up and running in Perth, Western Australia, also a community team to support people to transition through recovery.

We also provide training and will be running a conference in Freemantle, Western Australia on 18th and 19th May 2017.  See more details below:

Recovery Conversations: Dialogue on Working with Difficult to Engage People

Working to Recovery Ltd
Meanwhile we have not spent much time in the UK this year, but have been expanding the Online Recovery College.  Coming soon, there is a new course on self-harm and we just commissioned some Foundation Courses on non-violent communication.

We very much want to encourage individuals and organisations to join.  The courses are very relevant for portfolios and offer an alternative vision for mental health care that is non-medical model.

We have just launched our 2016-2017 Recovery College Prospectus, which can be viewed here -  CLICK HERE

Please email Jim Campbell, Recovery College Manager, if you want more information or you have any questions about the College -

Recovery Camp 2017
We are currently looking for a venue in England to run the 2017 Recovery Camp.  This year's recovery camp was a great success but we would like a different venue.  If anyone is aware of a site that would make a good venue that has bunkhouses, camping accommodation and possibly yurts or log cabin types, etc...Please let us know.  The site also needs to have reasonable transport links.

We will most likely move the camp to take place in September 2017.

For venue suggestions please contact Jim -

USA and Canada 2017
I went to the US this Autumn to run several workshops and will be returning with Ron next September if anyone wants to book us for training in the USA or Canada in 2017?  Please email me -

New Zealand 2016
We just finished running three weeks of Working with Voices workshops and having a few day's holiday in New Zealand.  It was lovely to be back in New Zealand, meeting old friends and making new ones.

Hearing Voices Information Resource Pack
If you are considering running a hearing voices group or are currently running one, you can apply for a free Book and DVD Pack from the Cymru Hearing Voices Network.

You can also apply if you are a team interested in working with voices and encouraging staff to use the materials.  There are also smaller individual packs available for voice hearers.

You need to apply in a few words on how you are going to use the materials.  Next packs go out on 14th December 2016.  Please get your applications in by 12th December 2016.

Other Training in 2017
We have trainers who can run Hearing Voices workshops and Mental Health & Spirituality workshops in the UK and Europe.

Ron is also available in the UK in Spring 2017, as he takes a break from our Australian projects.

Ron and I also have a new Recovery Champions course on practice, working with people who have psychotic experiences.  This is for 20 people and runs over 5 days.

For organisations wanting in-house training in 2017, please contact Karen.

For information and enquiries about any of these forthcoming workshops and training please contact -

And Finally...
Finally a Merry Christmas to you all and thank you for your support during 2016.

With Warm Regards

Karen & Ron
